Plant Savers (UpS)
United Plant Savers (UpS) is a non-profit grassroots membership
organization devoted to protecting and replanting at risk native
medicinal plant species. UpS raises public awareness of the endangerment
of native medicinal plants. American
Herbal Products Association
The American Herbal Products Association exists to serve its members
by promoting the responsible commerce of products which contain
herbs and which are used to enhance health and quality of life. American
Botanical Council (ABC)
For over a decade, The American Botanical Council has educated
the public, governmental agencies, research institutions and industries
on solid scientific research on the safe and effective use of medicinal
plants. ABC publishes the well-respected peer reviewed journal, Herbalgram The
American Herbalist Guild (AHG)
The American Herbalists Guild is a non-profit, educational organization
that represents the goals and voices of herbalists. It is the only
peer-review organization for professional herbalists who specialize
in the medicinal use of plants. International
Herb Association
IHA is a vibrant international organization representing herbal
business professionals worldwide. These businesses are involved
in the retail/wholesale of herbs and herb products, growing herbs,
manufacturing products made from herbs, processing herbs and using
herbs in crafts, culinary uses and landscaping. Northeast
Herbal Association
Our roots were planted in December 1991 when a small group of herbalists
gathered to share their ideas and experiences. They discovered
a common need for a regional voice, and so created a means for
networking and for showcasing professional educational opportunities;
a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and for the discussion of topics
such as herbal remedies, growing and wildcrafting, retailing, supply
resources, and herbal crafts; and a trusted source for answers
to legal and political issues. From this gathering the Northeast
Herbal Association was formed. Organic
Trade Association
Organic Trade Association (OTA) is a membership-based business
association that focuses on the organic business community in North
America. OTA's mission is to promote and protect the
growth of organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the
public and the economy. Veterinary
Botanical Medicine Association
The Veterinary Botanical Medicine Association is a group of veterinarians
and herbalists dedicated to developing responsible herbal practice
by encouraging research and education, strengthening industry relations,
keeping herbal tradition alive as a valid information source, and
increasing professional acceptance of herbal medicine for animals. Herbal Research American
Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP)
The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia's goal is to produce 300
qualitative monographs on therapeutic botanicals, including many
of the Ayurvedic, Chinese and Western herbs most frequently used
in the United States. Once completed, AHP's monographs will represent
the most comprehensive and critically reviewed body of information
on herbal medicines in the English language, and will serve as
a primary reference in the United States. Christopher
Hobbs Virtual Herbal
This virtual Herbal is devoted to honoring the plants, the
spirit and traditions of herbal medicine, and to the celebration
of health-your health, and the health of all life on Earth. Christopher
Hobbs L.Ac., A.H.G. is a licensed acupuncturist and 4th generation
herbalist and botanist with over 30 years of experience. Dr.
Duke's USDA Phytochemical & Ethnobotanical Database
Dr. James Duke, PhD., while working at the U.S. Department of Agriculture
for 30 years, created this searchable database so that a user can
type in almost any plant and get a list of the plant's chemical
components. The user can also type in a specific chemical and receive
a list of plants containing that chemical. HerbMed
HerbMed is an interactive, electronic herbal database that
provides hyper linked access to the scientific data underlying
the use of herbs for health. It is an evidence-based information
resource for professionals, researchers, and general public. HerbMed® is
a project of the Alternative Medicine Foundation, Inc, provided
as a freely available, public resource. Herb
Research Foundation (HRF)
As an education organization, the Herb Research Foundation
has been educating the public, health practitioners, legislators,
and the media about the health benefits and safety of herbs. HRF
has built a specialty botanical library containing more than 250,000
scientific papers on thousands of herbs. The
PLANTS National Database
The PLANTS Database provides standardized information about the
vascular plants, mosses, liverworts, hornworts, and lichens of
the U.S. and its territories. It includes names, plant symbols,
checklists, distributional data, species abstracts, characteristics,
images, crop information, automated tools, onward Web links, and
references. This information primarily promotes land conservation
in the United States and its territories, but academic, educational,
and general use is encouraged. PLANTS reduces government spending
by minimizing duplication and making information exchange possible
across agencies and disciplines. This is a great resource and interesting
to browse around. Phytonet
Phytonet is a British based information resource for those
involved in the development, manufacture, regulation and surveillance
of phytomedicines and herbal drugs. PhytoNet is set up and maintained
by the Center for Complementary Health Studies, University of Exeter. South
West School of Botanical Medicine
The South West School of Botanical Medicine was founded by
herbalist and author Michael Moore. For 18 years, the South West
School of Botanical Medicine has offered a comprehensive intensive
training program on medicinal herbs. Check out the wonderful plant
illustrations that Michael and his herbal peers have posted on
